Green Zebra Tomato
After last year’s heavy rains (which wiped out most of my 41 tomato seedlings and more mature strugglers), my partner and I decided to subscribe to a “summer CSA” (short term shares). It’s been really nice, but what I’ve really learned is…I like growing my own veggies!!!! That being said, this sweet heirloom variety might not have been one I’d tried—and was grateful for the opportunity to see, slice and taste. Beautiful indeed…and quiet mild in taste…but I explored.
First, I just cut and tried a slice as it is…pure. Yes, quite mild: quiet. A bit too quiet maybe for my taste…and ok!! Next, I added a bit of salt and pepper: better. (The rose petals? Just for beauty and medicinal benefits—which are abundant. Basil? Nice addition always to tomatoes…and really very beautiful as well.)
Before I get into the wraps I made, I’ll just say thank you to the sweet and generous woman who gifted me this lovely lady while downtown in Bristol, Vermont: very grateful.
Turkey wrap with garlic spread (made from fresh fennel, basil, garlic, and white beans), provolone cheese, green zebra tomato, basil, rose petals, salt, pepper and lettuce.
Later in the day, I made a yummy melt using the same yummy tomatoes plus kale, more basil, nuts and seeds, and some balsamic vinegar. Pictures follow. So fun!
The wrap.
The wrap, wrapped.
